Bungalow In The Sky

S+PS Architects emulate the candidness and expansiveness of a traditional bungalow in a high-rise triplex. Architect Shilpa Gore Shah adheres to her design principles in the larger perspective. This sensitivity is perhaps her core strength as she carves a ‘bungalow in the sky’ for a family spanning three generations. Situated in Mumbai, the clients were to move into the top three floors of an apartment building that would replace their bungalow. Taking advantage of the owner driven project, S+PS amended the building design to recreate spaces that would emulate the familiarity and emotional grounding of their original home. While the central zone that accommodates the circulation becomes the nucleus for the entire triplex inside; concrete panels, in-filled with coloured glass, differentiate the vocabulary of the top three floors from the rest of the building and emphasize the feel of an independent bungalow - an exercise that holistically (inside and out) makes the home stand apart in the milieu.
