Anand Menon And Shobhan Kothari

LOOKBOOK CONTACT

The brief to architects Anand Menon and Shobhan Kothari of Atelier, was totally unconventional. A couple wanted to convert a four bedroom apartment in Mumbai into a 2 bedroom one. The demarcation of functional zones is achieved by furniture placement, rather than partitioning it with walls. There is also an inbuilt flexibility of the design program, so that the furniture can be swapped around. The house is true to its concept of a white tonality and a restrained use of materials. The furniture used is minimalist, multi-functional and at some places a few architectural elements have been put to good use as seating. A water body in the living area was introduced into the project as a meditative tool at the request of the client.
