For the weekend home in Vadodra, architects from Vikrama Architecture and Design have brought in the outdoors to create a pleasant experience.

This weekend home is located on the outskirts of the city set amidst scattered villages like Khadol, Sankhyad and Chamara. The land is part of a plotted scheme which focused on eco-friendly infrastructure like rain-water Harvesting and solar lights. Every plot has amenities like a fruit orchard, vegetable garden, dog kennels, stable for horses, a water pond and a swimming pool.

The design originated from a simple rectangle which was exploded, segregating one part of the rectangle thereby bringing the outdoors in. The building shadows envelope the courtyard and pool areas creating a cool shady zone. The mass is a fusion of contemporary and traditional sloping roof structure. The plot is a part of a plotting scheme with each bungalow having a private garden and a private pool giving a view of vivid greenery and making the living experience more pleasant.

The client specifically wanted a detached space bringing in the nature yet not compromising the privacy. Hence one of the two bedrooms has been detached in terms of mass yet attached to the main structure through an extended walkway.

It is both a visual and spatial core of the home. The corridors themselves are created to generate a shifting Perspective and fragmented views.

The design involved the elements such as, the swimming pool, Colonnaded walkways and foliage to successfully merge with each other and create a focal point. All the spaces open up to this focus-the courtyard.

The entire material bank involved rough Kadapa stone, natural white and black marble, bricks and rough wood. Brick was used as a material to give visual texture and use it as a wrapping element. Textures in the courtyard were attained using motif tile with rough and polished Mandana stone along with borders of broken Jaisalmer stone pieces.
