The cityscape of buildings visible from the windows, forming a complex of multiple cubes, was a starting point for the design concept in this 22nd floor apartment. The commanding view of the various entities that make up the city were an inspiration for the husband and wife team of Shilpa and Pinkish Shah of S+PS Architects. Combining two separate units, the apartment forms an unlikely crustacean-like shape, in which it was not possible to reorganize the space by breaking walls. So the layout consists of a central living space, flanked by two crab-like ‘arms’ at 45 degrees, which hold the bedrooms. This home combines the old and the new, the traditional and the modern, the custom made and the mass produced, the industrial and the hand crafted, the local and the global - multiple entities come together in the (multipli)city house.
