Gandhidham-based Pokar Architects have centered the sprawling ‘S House’ around a light-flushed courtyard, and kept up an inside-outside feeling through a free-form plan.
The ‘S House’ at Adipur in Kutch, Gujarat, is situated on a 6,000 sq. ft. plot. The entrance is established by a wall that suggests a tenuous threshold between the outside and the inside. The 14 ft. vertical wall divides the space into 2 zones - private and public.
The ground floor accommodates a large living room, a dining area, the kitchen, a puja room, 2 bedrooms, and a courtyard.
The central courtyard forms the airy core around which the living spaces are organised. “It helps in making the homecoming experience pleasant, with natural daylight and fresh air present abundantly on both the levels,” states the team from Gandhidham-based Pokar Architects.
The first level is a private space which accommodates 3 bedrooms and a gym facility. Balconies at various points offer different possibilities of engagement between the outdoors and the indoors.
“The structure is designed as a free-form plan, with a single continuous curvilinear plane that wraps the entire house from the front part to the outside seating section,” concludes the team.
