Drawing inspiration from its location, architect Rajeev Agarwal of Rajeev Agarwal Architects designs a resort spa in Kolkata, reminiscent of a typical Indian village, juxtaposing rural simplicity and luxury. An eclectic fusion of Bengal countryside and contemporary finesse and comfort surrounds you as soon as you walk into the world-class spa resort, Vedic Village, sprawled over 200 acres of fertile farmland. The attention to minute details and the functionalism strike you as soon as you enter the earth villas. While the thatched roofs help bring the temperature down in the hot summer sun, they also add to the pastoral appeal of the place thus complimenting the architect’s visualisation of the site. Since the site is located in the midst of flat paddy fields, and waterlogged most of the year, the system of interconnected ponds at each farm is akin to the ponds in rural Bengal. The architect\'s plan is based on a hierarchy of open spaces for individual and community gatherings; a reinterpretation of traditional village squares.
