As an interior architect, Canna Patel extends her role far beyond merely dressing buildings. Her architectural vocabulary finds appropriate nuances in every bit of the interior form. A tangible example of this is the modern institution, Cadila R & D Centre in Ahmedabad.
Chiseling out a clean and visually uncluttered working environment in keeping with the scientific temper of the users and the Spartan architectural language of the building, the interiors of this institution incorporate two key functions – institutional and corporate. Controlled mobility, which forms an important aspect of this arrangement, is catered to via a movement axis that connects the labs and the corporate office as it cuts across the dominant volume, demarcating mandatory discussion rooms and utilities along the way. Strong, prominent oblique lines of the concrete structure continue to have a strong presence within the interiors as well.
At the HCP Interior Architecture Pvt. Ltd. (HCPIA), the design philosophy centering on volumes of natural light pouring into the interiors marks interesting chiaroscuro elements distinct to each project.
