Architect Dominic Dube’s design for a residence in Bengaluru illustrates his precision in the understanding of proportion and light. Inspired by the works of Le Corbusier, Dominic’s architectural oeuvres embody minimalist forms that explore simplicity in material - form finished concrete being one of the main components. This residence for a well-travelled, modern young couple and their two young children was the architect’s first tryst with a very strict adherence to vastu compliance. While this dictated the spatial positioning of various rooms of the program, it also restricted the resultant form to be more straight lined in volume with minimal cantilevered volumes. Although from the exterior, the house is a straightforward cuboid mass; it is the spatial experience within that exemplifies the architect’s innate design poetry.
