Completed in 14 months, the Beri house, by Morphogenesis, looks far richer than the Rs.1500 per sq. ft. budget would lead you to expect. The architect has managed to weave an illusion of space and volume in a standard tightly dimensioned Gurgaon bungalow. The palate, as usual, is restrained: Jaisalmer stone, parquet floors and metal. All the furniture and fixtures were designed by Rastogi and fabricated by the Delhi firm, Indi.
An interesting wallscape is designed using a full length glass block wall, an oversized fireplace in granite and a sculpturesque Michael Aram vase in metal. Instead of colours, it’s the material and textures that add variety to this interior scheme. The only touch of whimsy is a sequined curtain at the top of the stairs. Otherwise, the colour spectrum strays just enough to include a frosted blue ceiling. Designer Sonali Rastogi employs a modernist approach, flexible and fluid, and perhaps the antidote to the complexities of contemporary urban living.
