Environ Planners’ Nasik based bungalow, ‘Visawa’ has a protected, greenhouse-like approach, providing privacy from curious passers-by. The sloping tile roof, which architect Sanjay Patil considers his forte, gives the house a traditional look accompanied by the black basalt stone that clads the lower level of the exterior. Patil creates a true sloping roof. Many people use concrete slabs and lay tiling on it, however, Patil uses hollow steel pipe sections, covers them with wooden boarding, and then lays the tiles on top of this support. This offers a virtually maintenance-free roof. The client was not particular about Vaastu, only specifying that the design should be suitable for the plot, which was an odd shape. The ground plus one structure accommodates 4 bedrooms, with warm yellow Jaisalmer stone used for the porch, whereas the interior has an open plan, utilising Italian marble and wooden flooring.
