A mesmerising chiaroscuro of material, form and pattern packaged in no-nonsense horizontal and vertical planes chisel this penthouse interior by Kunal Shah Designs. This apartment in suburban Mumbai spread over three floors frames the Mumbai skyline in a sweeping view from Bandra to Madh island. It appears minimalist and simple at first look, but is a rather well-coordinated symphony of style and substance at close quarters. The hi-profile clients entertain a lot and desired a home that was warm, stylish and modern. Accents of ‘plush’ were preferred to something blatant and the lady of the house had a predominant requirement of maximum storage. So opening up the already spacious apartment, Kunal set off on a programmatic that kept the design minimalist and juxtaposed it with a confluence of subtly busy décor elements that were at once catchy and quirky.
