Not just black and white, but varying shades of dark and light come together in this home in Bangalore\'s posh Indiranagar locality. Sanjay Mohe and Arunkumar T.D. of Mindspace Architects threw over the family\'s past residence in favour of open, ultramodern spatial concepts in their new black and white home. Varied dramatic elements were brought into play while the design team maintained a visual link for all rooms in this row-house project spanning 2 levels; they also included the existing high boundary walls surrounding the plot, thus negating any unnecessary de-construction. A strategically situated water body floor in blue mosaic with glass walkways above it forms the perfect foil for the hide-and-seek natural light-play envisioned by the design team while a teakwood stairway endows a touch of elegance to the otherwise eclectic bungalow layout. Cross-ventilation necessary for natural cooling, especially in summers, is ensured through the open design and the inspiration for a clean ceiling design scheme, which is why the Surendra house is unique in a big way - no ceiling fans!
