In the Vastu House, Khosla Associates turned the client’s brief of a strict vastu compliance, which many would perceive as restricting brief, into a challenge to create a house with myriad facets. While location of the spaces were dictated by the vastu order, the aesthetic freedom saw principal architects Sandeep Khosla and Amaresh Anand of the firm explore their continuing dialogue with vernacular elements and the seamless transition of covered and semi-covered spaces, with their stamp of contemporary design sensibility. Composition of materials in this house include rough stone steps, pebbled courts, exposed concrete ceilings and polished cement floors which contrast well with polished Italian marble, fine teak furniture, velvets and silks.
