An innovative concept and a stylish manifestation are what make the Mumbai office of J. P. Morgan Chase, designed by Karim Noorani & Co. and Gerry Shirley stand apart from the rest. Since the bank functions all 24 hours on a three shift basis, it has employees working round the clock, making it absolutely necessary to create an ambience that would be conducive to their work pattern. The interiors lay a lot of emphasis on reciprocal interaction between employee and his work environment.
The general office is a plethora of intense, primary colours, and on the whole, has a very cheery and inviting feel. The colours introduced in the whole office are by way of interchangeable, painted ‘wall hanging fixtures’. They are easy to maintain and also allow flexibility for swapping in other areas. The architect set a new trend by using lively paint and easy-to-change computer generated art in the passages and corridors. The layout has been conceptualised so as to facilitate manoeuvring of spaces for future expansion or refurbishing, allowing easy conversions without any major alteration in the installed services.
